I tried a lot of new things this semester. I got to do all my first oil paintings which the best experience. I was also able to experiment with more abstract art which was fun and new. Abstract work is like looking through a window into someone's mind. Using pastels was great too. At first it seemed a little hard because of the type of paper the flower pastel was done on which didn't let you make many mistakes because of the lack of the ability to erase as well as you could on normal paper. For me, with art you can express yourself a lot easier than you could with just words.

First monoprint. This is just something that I was seeing in my head that I wanted to put out paper to try to express a type of feeling that many people might experience sometimes.

This is a picture of the five pieces of art I've done so far in this class. The two on the table are my still lifes, and first paintings. The painting of the landscape on the far right was the next thing I did. I was working with a pallette knife and oil paints It took me a long time to get the texture right and it was a struggle trying to get the right colors as the mountains went further and further back. The painting in the middle I copied off of a cover of a magazine. It was tricky to get her skin color just right, with all the different shades, and I still think it could use some improving. The painting on the right is my self portrait in progress. It's inspired by Frida Kahlo, a self portrait she painted with big green leavers in the background, titles 'Thinking about Death". It's definitely a work in progress. I'm still working on my lips, hair, shoulders, background and improving everything else.

This was my first print. I stared out by carving on a soft cut and then transfered it onto a painting. So far this has been my favorite project.

This is a collection of everything I have done so far. I did the three self portraits from a Andy Warhol inspiration.

This was my third monoprint. I had done a sunset so I then decided to do a night sky in comparison. I used yellow, blue and purple, and after this monoprint I found out that to get richer color I had to use much more paint.

I did this monoprint because i like giraffes and i think the colors here look really good together. Its kind of hard to make out that its a giraffe but I think you can see it.

I found an image online like this that I really like and decided to do a series. There are three or four of this print that are all different colors. I used blue, red, yellow and orange because i love how those colors look together.

This was my 2nd monoprint. I used dark blues and purples to create a night scene. AFter this print I realized that I had previously not been using enough paint to create the image that I wanted.

I decided to paint a deer because I love hunting. I first started out by drawing the deer. And then after I drew the deer I started mixing colors to get the perfect colors. This is one of my beast and favorite painting. If I ever saw this in the woods I don’t know what I would do. by elmer deforge

This is a still life of a yellow pepper, a garlic, and a copper cup. I was using natural light from the window. The garlic was pretty tricky for me, to capture the white color mixed with the streak of red, plus the shading on the side. The copper cup was a trip to paint, it was a challenge csapturing the light and colors shining on it.

This was probably my first time really painting a still life. It took me a while to get everything how I liked it and I spent a lot of time painting over colors I had previously painted. It was a challenge to capture all the colors on the white pot, but once I got the hang of it, it was really fun.

It took me a while to get down the color of the copper bowl, but eventually it worked it's way out. The coloring contrast of the turquoise pot was one of the easiest things to do. I worked in acrylics for this and in natural light.

I tried to use the brightest colors that would enhance each other in this painting. It was more of an abstract representation than literal so it was easier to finish. S.M

This is the finished product of my still life. I felt the blue vase was best represented, and that the apple and the smaller bowl were not exactly what I had hoped for. S.M

the colors is this still life were hard to figure out on paper. The lower right bowl was originally a brown color, but I had difficulty creating it, so it became a green bowl. S.M

For one of our first classes, we painted abstracts while listening to some jazz music. I painted using strokes that went with the music and used all the colors. I tried mixing up my brush strokes when the beat changed. I wanted to fill up my whole piece of paper so that's what I did.

I made this painting using the colors that the music reminded me of as the songs played along. I started blending the colors in with each other and going over them with the paint brush depending on how the music made me feel.

I created this painting by using strokes that went with the music. I tried to use a mixture of colors and at the end I decided to splatter paint the top half of the painting.

At first I started out with a much different color pallette in mind, but as the painting progressed certain colors just had to be included. I listened to jazz while I was painting and the smoothness of the music influensed the brush strokes and the blending of the colors.

I chose to use mostly yellow at first because I love yellow but then it needed a little oomf so i added red and blue. The shapes were just kind of what flowed out with the music that was playing.

There are a lot of different things in this painting: tear drops with some deer tracks going across the page, with sun light trying to overwhelm the darkness/grayness.

when i was painting this picture, i wasn't really thinking. i just went with the flow. what ever popped into my mind i put down on the paper. the day that i painted the painting i was feeling happy, so thats why i used all the bright colors.
